Fazıl Say's "Ballads" are romantically reflective piano pieces with hidden literary and biographical references. "Sevenlere Dair" means "For the lovers" or "About Lovers" in Turkish. In this ballad, Fazıl Say refers to an Oriental tradition of minstrel singing: "The Ring of the Dove. Of love and lovers" - which is the name of the treatise on love by Ibn Hazm al-andalusi (994-1064), which was written in today's Spain as early as 1022. Ibn Hazm is sometimes referred to as "the Arabian Ovid".
